Let’s Talk About Games : U+I
Around the conception of this idea, COVID-19 had become a major influence on everyone, seeing unprecedented restrictions being placed on individuals, limiting everyday activities but also restricting many forms of entertainment (movies, concerts, public gatherings, etc.) From research and personal experiences, video games became a major tool for many, whether they were newer players or those that had been playing for a while, to pass their time, given the wide variety of games that could fit into multiple playstyles (casual, competitive, personal, etc.) Given my past with collecting trading games from various games, I was interested in bringing this digital landscape of gaming now into a more analog format that everyone has experienced. The project itself is 20 trading cards in a custom box constructed by myself to house them, each designed with a front that resembles a portion of the user interface, or “UI” as it is more commonly referred to as, from a specific game. Each card also has supporting material in the form of posters and 5 cards with info such as the release date, the UI designer that worked on the game and further info to also act as a teaching tool for the viewer.
